- Discover how 75,000 people kept a secret in Oak Ridge during World War II. Learn about the Oak Ridge's leading-edge technology that continues to earn the U.S. the title "Super Power." From a "Hair Raising" experience to the "Atom Smasher" live demonstrations, audiovisuals, machines, and devices will keep you entertained and educated. This bus tour has guide commentary on the history of science and technology at the three Department of Energy Oak Ridge facilities. Register at the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge beginning at 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, except government holidays (July 4-5 and Labor Day). Participants sign-in for tour on the day they wish to go. First come, first serve. Space limited. Tour departs at 12 noon and returns at 2:30 p.m. Off the bus stops include New Bethel Church and Graphite Reactor, both at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the East Tennessee Technology Park (formerly K-25 Site) Overlook. Some restrictions apply.
